Brow & Nail Upkeep During the Quarantine

Written By: Brianna Miles

Yes, this is definitely a rough time for everyone, but this doesn’t mean we all have to look rough. I have seen so many people and even celebrities post on social media about how they couldn’t get their acrylic nails off or their eyebrows aren’t done, their hair and more. This is all a big deal because people don’t know how to be there own beauticians. Now don’t get me wrong beauticians do the job best and do what beginners probably shouldn’t try, so yes when this is all over I know they’ll all be booked. While most beauticians are unavailable during this pandemic, here are a few things you can do at home to upkeep your beauty routine.

Eyebrows

Threading and waxing eyebrows both have become very popular appointments over the years. Most people don’t choose to do these themselves afraid they’ll mess up and take their whole eyebrow off. This is not an unreasonable fear; however, if your 2 weeks are up and you’re seeing some unwanted hairs here are some tricks to get you through until your next appointment.

Tweezers! Now I know this sounds painful but is really not as bad as people make it out to be. The first tip with this is to open your pores around your eyebrows with hot water: you can do this right out of the shower or using a face towel. Next, hopefully, your tweezers are somewhat sharp or have grip so that when you pull once it’s out.

Supplies
Now biggest thing is knowing the shape you want, if you recently got them done you probably still have a shape you can follow. You may just be able to do this by looking but if you want to be safe you can use an eyebrow pencil to outline the ideal shape and only pluck what’s on the outside. To get the best shape out of this is the eyebrow razor and tweezer combo: the brow razer will help clean up the surrounding area the tweezer wouldn’t efficiently get done.

Nails

This is a great time to take off those 2 or more week old acrylic nails if you haven’t already. Being able to take your acrylic nails off without damaging your real nails was another big thing I saw that most people did not know how to do.
The first thing for this is supplies:
  • 100% acetone
  • cotton balls
  • foil and or a bowl
  • nail clippers
  • a nail file
Most of these items should already be available to you even if you don’t do your own nails often. If not, you can get almost all of this at your local dollar tree for a dollar. The biggest thing about this method is how time-consuming it is. Yes, this will take some patience and time; however, most of us have all the time in the world right now, so don’t rush it. You want your nails to be healthy and not damaged so when the nail shops open again you’ll be ready to go.

Here is a youtube video made by @Alloddestiny showing how to properly take of your acrylic nails.

Both of these tips are common things that we can easily do ourselves without having to wait for this quarantine to be over or overpaying when they are available again.
