Where Fall Fashion Begins NYFW

Entrance to the Tents at Lincoln Center
The Fashion Business Association (FBA) officers traveled to New York City for Fashion Week February 7-14. Since I am the secretary, I was fortunate enough to go.  Being at Lincoln Center and experiencing New York during fashion week was a very beneficial learning experience for the FBA Officers. Every day Lincoln Center was filled with people dressed in exotic outfits, and there were photographers all over taking pictures of people.

Inside the Tents

On February 8th Jake, Leah, and I got the amazing opportunity to go to the Academy of Art University’s fashion show inside the tents. We all really enjoyed this opportunity getting to see everything that goes on inside the tents, stand on the runway and actually see a show in person.

Fashion Week Internships

Nicole Forte, the FBA Vice President, got an internship during the week helping with Christian Siriano’s Project Runway fashion show. Nicole also helped Danielle Nachmani, a fashion stylist, who she had interned for over the summer. Nicole got to assist Danielle by dressing the mannequins in the tent lobby area that were on display with the new Mercedes Benz cars. Leah Hoffman, the President of FBA, got a week internship working for Ndoema who is a fashion blogger; her blog is The Global Girl. One evening we all went shopping with Nicole for a photoshoot Danielle was styling, running all over NY looking for specific articles of clothing needed for the photoshoot was a huge insight to the reality of working as a stylist in New York. Getting an internship for just a week was a learning experience for all the FBA officers.

Exploring New York City

On the days we were not busy or in the evenings, we took full advantage of it to see different parts of New York. One afternoon we went shopping in Brooklyn at consignment shops that carried designer brands. We also went to the fabric store Mood, which is the store the designers on Project Runway go to for their fabric. Every evening we ate dinner in a different part of New York and tried new foods. I got an insight into living in New York City by using the subway and other transportation to naviate around the city.  I loved my time in New York and all the experiences I had, after spending a week in New York I learned so much about the City and what direction I want to take my future career in fashion.
